What the job
involved
The hard part of an extension is never the new bit. It is the junction: threading new framing into an existing roof line so the finished house does not read as two houses that met by accident.
The new wing went up alongside the original roof, was wrapped and taped, then tarped while the roof closed in. Rain does not wait for a programme, and an open extension against a lived-in house is the fastest way to ruin the house you are adding to.
The scaffold stayed up until the envelope was sealed. It is slower and it is the reason the family could keep living there through it.
